Our English classes are designed to teach students to analyze, synthesize and evaluate a variety of genres and text forms. Teachers implement a standards based curriculum through a balanced literacy approach with a heavy emphasis on teaching students skills and strategies to successfully read and comprehend increasingly complex texts. Similarly, students learn how to write in different forms for a variety of purposes and audiences. In addition, to reading and writing,
GCMS believes that student discourse is an integral part of learning. Students are expected to talk about what they are reading and writing in small groups or partners and whole class discussions on a daily basis. To see what students are learning throughout the year in each grade level look at the calendar of Units of Study.
